In an article published on FAMUNEWS.com on May 6, 2023, Nkosi Singleton, a graduate of Tallahassee's Leon High School, shared his decision to follow in his parent's footsteps and attend Florida A&M University (FAMU). With his parents being FAMU alumni, the university held a special place in his heart.

Singleton, who graduated this month from the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) program, embarked on a four-year undergraduate journey offered by the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division. This comprehensive program is designed to prepare students for technical positions in industrial, academic, or other research environments. The BSPS degree equips learners with the foundation to pursue professional or graduate education in pharmacy, medicine, or pharmaceutical sciences.

Initially enrolling as a pharmacy major, Singleton had plans to earn a Pharm.D. degree. However, after shadowing pharmacists and receiving mentorship from local physicians, his interests shifted towards pursuing an MD. Dr. Remelda Saunders-Jones and Dr. Wayne Batchelor played crucial roles in advising Singleton and inspiring him to become a compassionate physician who truly cares for people beyond the realm of science.

Johnnie L Early II, Ph.D., CEO, Dean, and Professor of the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health, expressed his support for Singleton's decision. He highlighted that students specializing in pharmacology or medicinal chemistry, like Singleton, are well-prepared for advanced degrees such as MD, Ph.D., and DVM. Dean Early praised the highly skilled faculty at FAMU, emphasizing their ability to provide extensive knowledge and hands-on laboratory training that lays a strong foundation for students.

Earlier this month, Nkosi had the honor of being the BSPS Senior reflections speaker at the 2023 FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health Oath and Hooding ceremony held on May 5, 2023. Singleton has yet to reveal what medical school he intends to attend.

With his choice of FAMU and completion of the BSPS degree program, Nkosi Singleton continues his family's legacy and demonstrates his commitment to pursuing a career in healthcare. His undergraduate education prepared him to excel in various research and professional settings, helping him further his medical career.
