Spring Into Good Health: The FAMU CoPPS, IPH Peaden Campus Champions Wellness This Semester

Crestview, Fla. – FAMU CoPPS, IPH’s Durell Peaden Jr. Rural Pharmacy Education Campus kicked off the spring 2025 semester with two major health-focused initiatives: the You-Count Homeless Connect Event in January and the C.A. Weis Health Ambassadors community service event in February.

The You-Count Homeless Connect Event was held earlier this semester at the Brownsville Community Center in Pensacola, FL.

The You-Count Homeless Connect Event was held earlier this semester at the Brownsville Community Center in Pensacola, FL. The FAMU CoPPS, IPH Peaden Campus included learners and faculty participants offering free Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement, blood pressure, and blood glucose screenings to the homeless community in Pensacola.FAMU CoPPS, IPH P4 learners Kameryn Lewis and Joshua Ward participated alongside FAMU CoPPS, IPH faculty members Dr. Chenita Carter, Dr. Madison Holmes, and Dr. Amy Renaud. The purpose of the event was to provide free screenings, healthcare resources, and wellness information for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The You-Count Homeless Connect Event received multiple attendees marking the event as a great success!

The FAMU CoPPS, IPH Peaden Campus recently participated in a community service event for the “Health Ambassadors” students at C.A. Weis Community School in Pensacola, Florida.

The FAMU CoPPS, IPH Peaden Campus recently participated in a community service event for the “Health Ambassadors” students at C.A. Weis Community School in Pensacola, Florida. This is a voluntary program formed by a partnership between C.A. Weis and Community Health Northwest Florida for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are nominated by teachers to learn basic medical skills, leadership skills, and steps to work in a medical/health field (pictured above). The mission is to provide Student Pediatric Ambassadors an opportunity to represent C.A. Weis School as medical leaders in school and health projects. FAM CoPPS, IPH learners are committed to lead by example, demonstrate respect and responsibility, and engage in service.

Peaden campus faculty have been participating in this program since Spring 2020, providing yearly medication safety presentations to the Health Ambassadors. Pictured left to right: Dr. Amy Renaud, Dr. Chenita Carter and Dr. Madison Holmes provided an engaging and interactive presentation on medication safety to the Health Ambassadors, originally invited by Mrs. Chandra Williams, Clinical Office Manager (pictured right, right side next to Dr. Carter).

FAMU CoPPS, IPH is very proud of the Peaden Campus and its commitment to serving the community and enhancing access to healthcare. These events demonstrate the campus's promise to education, service, and improvement of public health. The College is excited to continue outreach and excellence, empowering future leaders in healthcare while impacting the lives of individuals who need it most.
