Tallahassee, FL – The FAMU CoPPS, IPH is proud to announce the 2025 Eskenazi Health Foundation (EHF)-Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Scholarship recipients: Miracle Kalu (top left) and Garriona Lucas (top right), both in their fourth professional year (P4) of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
The EHF-HBCU Scholarship provides $930 financial support to two PharmD students pursuing a Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency, the first step in advanced pharmacy training.
The EHF Scholarship also awarded a grant in the amount of $2,000 to provide two $1,000 scholarships to two current P4 learners pursuing a PGY1 residence. The two recipients are: Nehmie Firmin (bottom left) and Brianna Piquion (bottom right).
Darice Richard-Mitchell, PharmD, Director of Experiential Education Programs, continues to strengthen the valuable partnership between the FAMU CoPPS, IPH, and the Eskenazi Health Foundation. She shared, “The financial support from Eskenazi Health Foundation HBCU Scholarships will allow Miracle, Garriona, Nehmie and Brianna to embrace the Foundation’s vision, which is to inspire and promote a healthy community.” Dr. Mitchell added, “As future healthcare providers, they will be able to advance their pharmacy practice careers through innovative skills to assist the underserved population. I am very proud of them both.”
The FAMU CoPPS, IPH and Eskenazi Health Foundation’s collaboration is rooted in shared goals of professionalism, innovation, and community impact.
Earl J. Wade, M.Ed., Administrative Coordinator, Continuing Pharmacy Education | Oath and Hooding, Awards and Scholarship Committee Chair observed, “The Eskenazi Health Foundation Scholarship is offered to two P4 learners with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and they must have had a balance due with the University. To be able to provide support of $1,000 each based on academics serves the purpose of giving two criteria-qualified P4 students an opportunity to offset some of their educational expenses related to tuition during their last semester, while they’re on residency rotations throughout the nation.” Wade emphatically concluded: “These learners are better positioned for furthering their residences and the FAMU CoPPS, IPH celebrates the achievements of these four learners and thanks the Eskenazi Health Foundation for its ongoing support of learner successes.”
Trey Everly, Chief Financial Officer with the Eskenazi Health Foundation wrote: “The Eskenazi Health Foundation is pleased to award Florida A&M University a grant in the amount of $2,000 to be awarded to the student/learner by March 31, 2025.” For more information, please visit eskenazihealthfoundation.org and thank you.
