Dr. Mash is internationally recognized as one of the foremost authorities on ibogaine, a psychoactive compound under investigation for its transformative potential in treating addiction. She led the first modern clinical trials of Ibogaine and continues to advance the therapeutic development as the founder and Ceo of DemeRX.  Through funding and research, her influence in medicine is highlighted in more than 331 publications and over 64,000 citations.

“As we commemorate the 75th Diamond Jubilee of pharmacy education at Florida A&M University, we are honored to welcome distinguished alumna Dr. Deborah C. Mash back to CoPPS, IPH. Her groundbreaking research on ibogaine and noribogaine reflects the scientific excellence, cultural awareness, and commitment to advancing human health that define our legacy. Dr. Mash’s work continues to inspire our student-learners and strengthen our mission to lead in discovery, innovation, pharmaceutical sciences and public health impact,” emphasized research innovators and leaders Dr. Seth Y. Ablordeppey, Interim Dean, and Dr. Karam F.A. Soliman, Associate Dean.

Ibogaine is a natural plant‑derived compound long used in certain African traditions, while noribogaine—its primary metabolite formed inside the body—extends the therapeutic benefits by providing longer‑lasting anti‑craving and mood‑stabilizing effects without the intense psychoactive experience.
