College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health, Dean and Professor Johnnie L. Early II, Ph.D., RPh Fellow NPhA has been appointed to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Council on Education and Workforce Development. This is an appointed position by the ASHP President-elect with the approval of the ASHP Board of Directors.
There are five councils, and they are the primary bodies that initiate ASHP policies on professional issues. These councils are:
- Council on Education and Workforce Development
- Council on Pharmacy Management
- Council on Pharmacy Practice
- Council on Public Policy
- Council on Therapeutics
The ASHP Council on Education and Workforce Development is concerned with ASHP professional policies related to the quality and quantity of pharmacy practitioners. Within the Council’s purview are (1) student education, (2) postgraduate education and training, (3) specialization, (4) assessment and maintenance of competence, (5) credentialing, (6) balance between workforce supply and demand, (7) development of technicians, and (8) related matters.
Policy recommendations are reviewed by the Board of Directors and, ultimately, by the House of Delegates. Councils also advise the Board on ASHP activities within their respective purviews.
