Tallahassee, FL – Johnnie L. Early II, PhD, RPh, Fellow NPhA has ably and admirably served the Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CoPPS, IPH) twice: once, as Professor (1978 to 1993) | Dean (1987-1993), and then, after serving as Dean at The Medical University of South Carolina | MUSC | Charleston, SC (1993 - 2000), he also served as Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (utoledo.edu), for 18 years 2000 - 2018). He then returned to the FAMU CoPPS, IPH in 2018 as CEO, Dean and Professor to Friday, September 13, 2024.

Upon his return to “The Hill” in 2018, Dean Early noted: “FAMU afforded me the opportunity to develop leadership skills that led to my being named Dean. In the meantime, Professor, Eminent Scholar Chair and Fulbright Scholar Seth Y. Ablordeppey, PhD will take the reins as Interim Dean (once again) on Monday, September 16, 2024. He began his professional career in teaching and research in 1981 and took a professional development leave in 1985 to study for his doctorate in Medicinal Chemistry at olemiss.edu. Following the award of the PhD in 1990, he did a postdoctoral study in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, vcu.edu (MCV Campus) from Dec 1990 - June 1993 and joined FAMU in June 1993 as an Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry. Administratively, he has served the FAMU CoPPS, IPH as Division Director (Chair) of the Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences and became the Interim Dean of the College from Feb 2011 to June 2012.
