August 29, 2024

Tallahassee, FL - According to Earl J. Wade, MEd, Administrative Coordinator, Continuing Pharmacy Education | Chair, Oath and Hooding, Awards and Scholarship Committees, FAMU CoPPS, IPH, the CVS retail pharmacy is philanthropic with the learners, to the tune of $5,000 provided recently for scholarships. Mr. Wade noted: “It was a mutual collaboration between the College and CVS - Online Drugstore, Pharmacy, Prescriptions & Health Information. CVS Talent Acquisition Business Partner, Glenwood R. Avery, Jr. is a FAMU alum with his master’s in public administration (MPA), and he understands and appreciates the hard work, dedication, direction, and the leadership from the College’s administrators. The College is very appreciative of the heartfelt contribution of $5,000, and even more, we are establishing and continuing a great working relationship between both groups. Lastly, in having a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Avery, he appreciates the progressive work ethic of our current learners. The contribution will go toward supporting our programs such as the White Coat, Awards, and the Oath & Hooding Ceremonies. A donation of recruitment materials for our learners is also forthcoming from CVS.”

According to Mr. Wade, a scholarship portal is made available to the CoPPS, IPH learners in May/June of each year, in order to allow learners ample opportunity to successfully apply for and compete to earn scholarship support announced between July 1-15 annually. This helps to expedite the process of identifying award recipients, once learners complete drop/add, in a timely manner, so that funds may be distributed.
Mr. Avery released this supportive article, in part: “At CVS Health, our commitment to fostering the next generation of pharmacy professionals is at the heart of our mission as the nation’s leading integrated healthcare provider. This commitment is reflected in our growing partnership with the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (CoPPS, IPH), a collaboration that promises to shape the future of healthcare while empowering learners to excel in their careers. Recently, CVS Health had the privilege of donating $5,000 to the FAMU’s CoPPS, IPH. This contribution is more than just a financial gift; it represents our dedication to supporting the brightest minds in the field, helping them develop the skills necessary to lead in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

“Our success and impact on the community are directly tied to the strength of our pharmacy teams. That’s why we actively seek out the best and brightest learners who share our passion for patient care and innovation. Through our structured learning programs, both interns and colleagues are given the tools they need to enhance their clinical, managerial, and leadership abilities, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare industry. The partnership between CVS Health and the FAMU CoPPS, IPH is built on a shared vision of excellence in education and patient care. Together, we are committed to ensuring that learners not only succeed in their practice settings but also grow personally and professionally. This collaboration paves the way for meaningful opportunities that will not only benefit the learners but also the communities they will serve.

“As we continue to develop this partnership, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. By investing in the education and development of future pharmacy leaders, CVS Health is not only securing the future of our industry but also enhancing the quality of care for the patients and communities we serve. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a fruitful and impactful relationship with the FAMU CoPPS, IPH. Together, we are making strides towards a healthier future, one learner at a time.” concluded Avery in his statement to the College.
