CoPPS, IPH Announces the Donna Dawkins-Baytop, M.D. Endowed Scholarship

Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (CoPPS, IPH), announces the creation of the Donna Dawkins-Baytop, M.D. Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship will be first awarded by a real-time gift in fall 2021 to a student pharmacist that demonstrates high academic achievement while exhibiting leadership in their class.

“This endowed scholarship is a statement to Dr. Baytop’s commitment to bettering the lives of future generations of pharmacy and public health learners. This gift will have a notable and lasting impact on our learners and the College for generations to come. The College is both honored for and gratified by this generous gift,” says CoPPS, IPH Dean Johnnie L. Early II, Ph.D., RPh, Fellow NPhA.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Dr. Baytop is an alumna of the formerly named FAMU School of Pharmacy, completing her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. She later earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida, College of Medicine.

Dr. Baytop culminated her career serving as the Regional Medical Director of Solar Turbines at A Caterpillar Company for thirty-four years. During her time there, she developed innovative and impactful global health strategies and preventive health and wellness programs and initiatives. She responded to emergency medical needs for 9,000 Solar Turbines employees worldwide.

The scholarship initially will provide $2,500 for one pharmacy or public health learner with the intention that the endowment will grow and support more scholars in the future.

“As President of the Student Council Association, I can say that the Endowed Scholarship on behalf of Dr. Donna Dawkins-Baytop is received with much gratitude. The decision she has made to invest into the higher education of future FAMU pharmacists is admirable,” says Jaylyn Tate, a 3rd Year Doctor of Pharmacy Candidate.

The College will host a virtual signing ceremony on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 2 p.m. (11 a.m. PST) to honor the endowed scholarship from Dr. Baytop. More information regarding the details of the ceremony will be provided soon.
