RESIDENCY PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The 12-month Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) Residency Program with an emphasis in academia at Florida A&M University Jacksonville Instructional Site provides residents the opportunity to accelerate their growth beyond entry-level professional competence in direct patient care and academia. The University has partnered with St. Vincent’s HealthCare in Jacksonville, Florida to provide this unique residency experience. The program is committed to providing residents with the skills and knowledge required to become competent pharmacy practitioners and academicians.
Our residents are expected to:
- Provide pharmaceutical care to patients in various settings
- Develop independent learning skills
- Function as an integral member of the healthcare team
- Promote and support a safe and effective medication use process
- Provide drug information to healthcare providers
- Maintain a professional ethic
The program of each resident varies based upon his or her goals, interests, and experience. Each resident is required to complete core rotations essential to the pharmacy practitioner. Elective rotations will allow the resident the opportunity to pursue individual goals.
The resident is required to develop and complete a major research project, which will be presented at the Florida Residency Conference. Additionally, residents will have the opportunity to develop oral and written communication skills and participate in various leadership roles.
Upon successful completion of the PGY1 Residency, residents will receive a Certificate of Completion.
