Biosketch
Fran T. Close, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Behavioral Science and Health Education in the Institute of Public Health in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Close focuses much of her research on community based participatory research in underserved communities. Her research interests are in the area of racial disparity issues, Women’s Health and Maternal Child and Infant Health. Her research involves working with communities in the Big Bend area to address infant mortality issues. She is currently working with the Whole Child Leon’s Healthy Infant Partnership to design a prenatal survey that will investigate why women seek/enter prenatal care late. Presently, she is serving on the Healthy Start Redesign Subjects Matter Experts Committee. Dr. Close is currently serving as the President of the Board of Directors for the Capital Area Healthy Start Coalition (CAHSC). She has been instrumental in implementing a research component on pregnancy related issues that targets African American women of childbearing age.
